Collections Representative Resume Tip #1:  Know the Job Requirements For A Collections Representative

To write a great Collections Representative resume, you first need to have a good understanding of what the employer is looking for and what the job requires.  Sometimes, it is easy to forget what our job really requires because we do it everyday.  By asking yourself what personality traits, knowledge, skills and abilities are needed to be a good Collections Representative, you get yourself into the right frame of mind needed to write your Collections Representative resume.

For example, when I write a Collections Representative resume, this is what comes to mind for the type of work:

A collections rep collects on overdue accounts and bad cheques.  Their goal is to find debtors and secure payments.  To find debtors collections reps need to know how to research and investigate account and debt information.  Collections reps need to handle negative interactions professionally and need to know how to negotiate payment arrangements.

Collections Representative Resume Tip #2:  Highlight Core Collections Representative Competencies

Knowing the traits required for your Collections Representative job, is important because a great Collections Agent or Collections Representative sample resume highlights the core competencies required of the job.  The core competencies are the essential traits required to be successful for Collections Representative jobs.  Based on the nature of the work described above, a good Collections Representative sample resume should highlight traits like the ability to negotiate, mediate, resolve conflict, remain calm and professional with angry debtors, research and analyze information and manage the stress of a busy collections call center.

Collections Representative Resume Tip #3:  Focus on Your Accomplishments As a Collections Representative

Let’s face it, employers want employees who can deliver results.  So in your Collections Representative resume, mention career accomplishments that highlight the job competencies .  This means you need to give examples of where your conflict resolution, negotiation and research abilities increased revenue, decreased cost, improved efficiency, service and so forth.  Mention awards and recognition you earned as a Collections Representative.  But don’t limit yourself to just formal awards and recognition.  For example, include work achievements where you may not have received an award like a letter of appreciation or commendation.

If your work as a Collections Representative or Collections Agent is not easily measured then use social evidence such as testimonials and references to demonstrate your accomplishments on your resume.  A quote from a former employer inserted in your resume can show any employer that you are the one to hire.

Collections Representative Resume Tip #4:  Don’t Be A Needle In The Haystack

Most employers today use software programs to search their resume database for certain job titles to find candidates with previous experience.  Because of this, the job title you list in your Collections Representative resume can greatly impact resume searchability.  So make sure your Collections Representative resume contains job titles that are commonly searched.  For more on how the job titles listed in your resume can affect your chances for landing your next job interview, check out our article “Don’t Get Pigeon Holed By Your Resume“.
