Recruitment and Staffing Excellence – Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies


I am please to congratulate David Aplin Recruiting on being named, Canada’s 50 Best Managed companies. David Aplin Recruiting was founded in 1975 and has since grown to become a national staffing provider with 9 offices across Canada. This is a wonderful achievement that demonstrates the level of professionalism and staffing excellence at David Aplin. I believe this is a particularly special accomplishment considering the highly competitive staffing industry, within the current labour shortage.

For staffing agencies the current labour shortage is a double-edge sword. On the one hand, as a staffing provider, you are tasked with finding scarce talent in an employment market that is in short supply. On the other hand, as an employer, you face the same labour shortage in finding and retaining top recruiters. And here’s where the pressure really begins to ascend, as an employer in the staffing industry finding good candidates is not possible without good recruiters.

I believe that the key to the success at David Aplin recruiting is the successful management of the two key challenges within the staffing industry: employee retention and client loyalty. Consider these facts:

  • More than 70% of its business is repeat customers.
  • 45 out of its 115 employees are shareholders.

In fall of 2007, HRinmotion was invited to the seminar, “Attracting and Retaining Top Talent” hosted by David Aplin Recruiting. There, we had the opportunity to listen to experts and including Mr. Aplin, the founder and CEO and his Vice President, Greg Ford talk about today’s recruiting challenge. They spoke passionately about their employee-focused philosophy and the importance of staffing quality. More than lip service, the company demonstrates their staff commitment through investing in training and profit sharing. Through an employee share plan, the company has managed to sell 50% of its shares – now that’s what I call employee involvement.
