I have always recommended that when my clients have a proprietary job title, example: Level VII Technician, that means nothing outside of the company, translate it to a functional title for outsiders and follow it by the technical title in parenthesis, for example:

Lead Person - Blast Furnace Repair Team (Level VII Technician)

This has served my clients well.

It's funny that you mention the video game industry, because working for a video game job site, I have seen many unusual job titles in video games. I would suggest to always use your actual job title, no matter how obscure. You can overcome the job title by providing a detailed job description or by providing a list of compentencies.
