In this hot employment market, the number of jobs and the pay have been increasing steadily but job satisfaction has been on the decline. An employment study conducted by Canadian Policy Research Network has that only about 33% of respondents were very satisfied with their jobs. To me this is not surprising, since when you look at employee engagement surveys, engagement is often only around 50%. Also it is interesting to note that job satisfaction did not increase despite increasing wages. Again, I suppose this too is not surprising since the number one reason cited in employment exit interviews as the reason for departure is hardly ever the compensation. Instead, reasons such as career opportunities, development and boredom are most often cited as tops reasons to leave a job.
